Many summer nights were spent cooling off the shade of the driveway (for us parents) and take a cool trip down a summer favorite, the slip n' slide (for the kids). This "old fashion" form of summer cool-off fun was well worth the $12 or so we put into it. The kids still ask if we can get it out, though the sun is going down a lot sooner now and it is hard to get a lot of time outside in the evenings. I am sure it will be one of the first things to come out next summer (even before the pool opens!).
We put on our own fireworks show this year, right in our driveway! The kids loved watching all the sparklers and bright fountain showers while we munched on popcorn and other yummy treats! A little later, our neighbors put on an awesome show that lit up the sky!
Last fall, we had a visit in our sunday school class from a couple who had just come off of the mission field in Brazil. Malcolm and Dana became fast friends with our family and blessed us with their friendship. They were here staying with family until God placed them in a new position. God called them to the Miami, FL area this summer to continue ministering to children in a children's home there. We continue to pray for them and that God will continue to bless their family as they do God's work. Our family surely misses them!
In mid-June, we were sad to say goodbye to our dear brother (in-law) and sister-in-law Scott and Mary and their kids, Esther, Ben and Daniel, who are off to be Missionaries in Uruguay. They will be there several years before being able to come home again. We pray for their work and safety while they are there.
After reading some fun reviews on Mt. Airy, we took off to tour the town and grab some lunch. We were hoping to eat at Snappy Lunch (pictured here) but the line was rather long and our bunch was hungry. So after we walked around (let me just mention that the summer heatwave was pretty miserable) for a short tour, we hopped back in the car to feed our growling tummies and stay cool. It was a neat town and we hope to go back soon.
It always seems like summer is here forever and the heat wave will never end! We probably feel this way more years than not since we seem to plan the bulk of our vacation fun right at the tail end of summer (it is awesome to look forward to and great on the budget as well!)

Good stuff! Looks like you guys had a great summer! Have you ever been to the Autumn Leaves Festival in Mt. Airy? It is really really cool. Tons of street vendors, homemade stuff and memorabilia. Oh and the food is out of this world! Snappy's is usually closed but they have all sorts of organizations selling everything from Homemade fried apple pies, to grilled corn on the cob, turkey legs, spirally fries and on and on. Lots of fun. Very crowded but it's in October so weather is cooler. Just thought you might like to know about it :-) See you guys around!
Slip-n-slides are awesome! Glad you got to enjoy fireworks at your house. We did this, too. But not all of our neighbors were happy with us! :) Oh Well!!
